Create visual journal boards from recycled materials..deconstructed layers of...collage...paint drips...spill thoughts. Experiment with creative layers and techniques using Collage Pauge, acrylics, paint markers & inks.Creative collage techniques to create visual journal paintings. Play with painted and Xerox backgrounds. Have fun with jumpstarts…fast…free…spilling words, thoughts and ideas. Learn to incorporate your handwriting as drawing and experiment with mark making & doodles.

APPROVAL: Once you set up your login, I will get an email to approve your membership.
WELCOME: Once you are approved you will be able to access the online classroom.

workshop format:
A workbook PDF & video will be posted on TUESDAY. You can download and access the lessons 24/7. Thursday will be a LIVE class chat. You can post photos of your artwork made in class and ask/answer questions via private class discussion groups.

OH...how i HEART Venice Beach! it's been a while since I've been back to my old stomping ground and it's always changing..new stores, lucious displays of foliage, great restaurants and beautiful homes.

            the one thing I miss are the beautiful sunsets.

        last week, I had the chance to connect with with my good friend Sonya and play in Venice for the day. we had a FABULOUS lunch on the patio of VENICE BEACH WINES. they have an amazing selection of wines and a fun chill atmosphere. When I moved to venice in 2007, VBW just opened and the owner, Oscar always poured wines for me and my friends when we came in. he introduced me to The Prisoner, one of my all time FAVES! it's wonderful to see it thriving and now they serve a DELICIOUS menu of cheese platters and made to order pannini's {try the brie & grape panini...YUMM} and home made potato chips! so if you are ever in the area...grab a seat in the lounge, sip a glass of wine & relax!!

                    strolling down the streets, I discovered a new store called BIG RED SUN. it's full of creative inspiration of the topiary kind, they specialize in innovative garden displays and "living walls" of succulents & moss {beautiful}. I HEART succulents and this nursury/boutique/green canvas is full of beautiful displays.

Valley Ridge Art Studio workshops in MAY

For those of you who follow my blog, you probably have heard me talk about Valley Ridge Art Studio in Muscoda, WI. I've taught there for the past two years and had wonderful workshops and AMAZING students. Tucked away about an hour and half from Madison, is the beautiful and peaceful art studio. I'm hoping to keep my workshops going this year and would love to have a few more people join us in the magnificent place. Spend three days in this art intensive painting, learning about capturing digital images, collage and building a one-of-a-kind book...

Creative Soul: a Portfolio of YOU
Valley Ridge Art Studio
May 29-31, 2009

What brings you happiness?  A smile to your face? What feeds your soul? What images do you relate to? Words that describe YOU.colors that call to YOU.who are YOU? These are questions you will answer as you paint, collage and build a visual journal that expresses your creative soul.

 

DAY 1: Making Marks & Collage Canvas:  Spend the day exploring a myriad of painting and mark making techniques. We will begin by working on a couple of large canvas 24"x36" surfaces of paper and fabric. You will be lead through a series of jumpstarts to make creative backgrounds, spilling words, writing thoughts . splashing .. dripping paint, scribbling color and making marks. In the afternoon, build textured canvases with paint and layers of mixed media collage.

DAY 2: the self portrait journey An exploration of YOU!: Start the morning with a photo journey through the grounds of Valley Ridge to capture unique images as inspiration to create a self-portrait collage. The self portrait can be interpreted in many ways...YOU will be creating a collage painting that incorporates an abstract drawing of you, a collage of your favorite things or a representation of combination of both. You will be lead through creative exercises to create layers of paper, fabric and images that represent your creative spirit.

DAY 3: PORTFOLIO construction: The portfolio will be constructed from all the artwork pieces you have created from the first two days. The portfolio panels are stitched or taped together to make a long banner, a mini journal is hand stitched in the center of the portfolio with pages that flips and folds in a random fashion. The finished book opens up to reveal your creative soul through paintings, images and words.

dwell: the coffee table book online workshop
MAY 14-JUNE 11

Build a coffee table visual journal that measures up to 16"x 21". The journal cover is a painted board with a doorway cutout, which tips out to expose a personal mantra. Through a series of creative jumpstarts you will be guided to create calligraphic backgrounds, graphic typography, collage, lush painted papers and black and white pages that spill throughout this large format book. Paint wonderful abstractions integrated with distressed photos to document a recent travel journey or display a collection of personal memories. The journal houses hand painted and stained pages that flip and fold in "non-traditional" ways.

Here's a little preview of the video lessons that are part of my online workshops. The videos are a combination of me painting and making artwork, inspirational video and photos of my travels, wanderings and everyday life. The workshop videos are filled with step-by-step explanations of the techniques, creative inspiration, vibrant color and cute snippets of FREEDOM, my little munchkin. :)
