I realized that I wrote Borders in the title of my blog yesterday and didn't mention anything about it..oops! Yesterday, I saw my book on the shelf at Borders in Fremont, CA for the first time!! I signed the copy and they put an official “author autographed” sticker on it!! Very Cool! I will be signing copies at different stores across the country during my travels and will post messages. I have a little surprise in each copy I sign, so if you purchase a signed copy in a store you will know what to do! It’s a Collage Unleashed treasure hunt!!
Here are the most recent publications I've picked up at the bookstore over the past week..i've got a pile of magazines to flip through during my spare time?!?/airplane trips ...a couple of my favorite alternative art pubs Beautiful Decay and Juxtapoz. They are filled with underground urban art and renegade artists. For my fiber fix, the latest issue of Knit 1-The Art Issue, it's very hip, colorful and has funky crochet and knitting projects. Even though I don't understand how to read the patterns, it's full of visual inspiration, plus there's an article on "scrumbling"/free-form crochet and a cool "Frida" inspired floral knitted head piece.
I'm doing research on the digital scrapbooking market and wanted to see how mixed media is making it's way to the pages of scrapbooking. It's finally starting to cross-over, which I think is a great thing. It's cool to see scrapbookers starting to paint their own papers and do more "freestyle" stuff. So in my pile are Digital Scrapbooking 5 and Scrapbook Answers.
Lastly, I picked up a couple of beading magazines because of my latest obsession - adding to my
collection of vintage lucite beads and cabs. Over the past few weeks I've bought a ton of vintage beads on ebay and at my local bead store Kiowa Rose in Niles and vintage necklaces to pull apart at Thrift Town...it's getting a little overboard because I NEED to start using them! :) So, I've been incorporating them into a new journal structure I've been working on which has a chunky vintage beaded binding. Oh, and I got my latest copy of Art & Life Zine by Teesha Moore, it's always a nice surprise in the mailbox. Well off to prepare for my workshops, demo and book signing at Scrapbook Territory in Berkeley this weekend and try to fit in time to read, actually FLIP through my magazines. Happy reading!!
