my art on the TODAY show

Vickietoday

A big thanks to my girl, Jennifer Perkins of Naughty Secretary Club, who incorporated my one-of-a-kind collage papers in a necklace she created that was worn by my friend Vickie Howell this morning on the TODAY show on NBC! Check out the video clip! Vickie is the host of DIY's Knitty Gritty and was promoting her super cool new book Not Another Teen Knitting Book showcasing funky, hip knitting projects using alternative materials like fabric, plastic grocery bags...awesome! ROCK ON!!

happy birthday DUDE!!

Lildude_1

Today my beautiful sister celebrates her 32nd bday! We grew up doing everything together...playing soccer & softball, cheerleading, wearing the exact same clothes for years(thanks MOM! :), the RED STRIPED robes..LOL, singing with the mini microphone/radio set, playing barbies and watching SUPERFRIENDS every Saturday morning. So many memories over the years...

To my sister...my best friend...wishing you a beautiful day and much happiness. We'll celebrate next week in Hawaii!!! :) Love you...DUDER :)Medudeghostbar

Daddygirlsbeachfrom the time I was little girl I have been blessed to have a role model who taught me...

       to love.       to smile.

to be determined.

to be independent.            to do what i love.

to set goals and achieve them.          to be patient.          to laugh.

                                     to be ME.

thank you daddy for your love, support and encouragement today and EVERYDAY. i love you. boo

borders cont'd...my pile of to-do READING

I realized that I wrote Borders in the title of my blog yesterday and didn't mention anything about it..oops! Yesterday, I saw my book on the shelf at Borders in Fremont, CA for the first time!! I signed the copy and they put an official “author autographed” sticker on it!! Very Cool! I will be signing copies at different stores across the country during my travels and will post messages. I have a little surprise in each copy I sign, so if you purchase a signed copy in a store you will know what to do! It’s a Collage Unleashed treasure hunt!!

Here are the most recent publications I've picked up at the bookstore over the past week..i've got a pile of magazines to flip through during my spare time?!?/airplane trips ...a couple of my favorite alternative art pubs Beautiful Decay and Juxtapoz. They are filled with underground urban art and renegade artists. For my fiber fix, the latest issue of Knit 1-The Art Issue, it's very hip, colorful and has funky crochet and knitting projects. Even though I don't understand how to read the patterns, it's full of visual inspiration, plus there's an article on  "scrumbling"/free-form crochet and a cool "Frida" inspired floral knitted head piece.

I'm doing research on the digital scrapbooking market and wanted to see how mixed media is making it's way to the pages of scrapbooking. It's finally starting to cross-over, which I think is a great thing. It's cool to see scrapbookers starting to paint their own papers and do more "freestyle" stuff. So in my pile are Digital Scrapbooking 5 and Scrapbook Answers.

Lastly, I picked up a couple of beading magazines because of my latest obsession - adding to my Boheme_binding_detailcollection of vintage lucite beads and cabs. Over the past few weeks I've bought a ton of vintage beads on ebay and at my local bead store Kiowa Rose in Niles and vintage necklaces to pull apart at Thrift Town...it's getting a little overboard because I NEED to start using them! :) So, I've been incorporating them into a new journal structure I've been working on which has a chunky vintage beaded binding.   Oh, and I got my latest copy of Art & Life Zine by Teesha Moore, it's always a nice surprise in the mailbox. Well off to prepare for my workshops, demo and book signing at Scrapbook Territory in Berkeley this weekend and try to fit in time to read, actually FLIP through my magazines. Happy reading!!

the OC.book signings.borders

No NOT the TV show…but the artful weekend I had in Orange County…I just returned from a fabulous trip to the ArtBar in Santa Ana where I had my first book signing and taught my Collage Unleashed workshops. A huge thank you to Rachel and Nicole for all their hard work putting together a great weekend of events. If you make it to the OC, the ArtBar is a MUST SEE!! I hung out and stayed with my good friend, renegade calligraphy master, Lisa Englebrecht. We had a great time laughing, sharing stories and talking about art over In-n-Out burger! It was a blast and once I got my Clariton-D, I was all good..I didn’t realize Lisa had a cat and I’m soooo allergic. J Oh..and I finished my Artfest & Artfiberfest 2007 proposals!

Angelakarenmelinda_6 A night full of art, fun and great friends...Thank you to all who came down to the signing and graffiti demo! Karen Woods and Linda Dinino, authors of Visual Chronicles: The No-Fear Guide to Creating Art Journals, Creative Manifestos and Altered Books and mixed media artist Angela Cartwright were also in the house signing their books. Angela was signing Transparent Art, which also features some of my artwork. I also had the pleasure meeting Christine Adolph whose work I admire. Rebecca_traciStampington & Co. held the first artwork jury competition and seminar that night. There were over 175 entries of beautiful artwork ranging from collage, assemblage, cards, journals, altered art and much more! Congrats to all the winners whose work was selected to be featured in their publications! After the event I had a chance to grab a bite to eat with Lisa and the "Stampington" gang, my editor Jenny Doh, and Rebbeca Itner at the yummy Gypsy Den. Oh what a weekend, now I'm home for a week, then off to Artfiberfest soon!
