artJOURNALING fridays: mindy lacefield

Today I'm sharing the beautiful artwork and fun art journaling video by my sweet friend Mindy Lacefield, {you may know her from her website www.timssally.com} and last year she helped kick off my Doodles Unleashed book tour. Her art journals and mixed media artwork are full of colorful layers and whispering heartfelt words. She's a beautiful, creative soul. There is so much magic in watching the way she paints..her creative spirit jumps off the page.

I asked Mindy to share with us her 5 FAVE art supplies...here's her list:

• neon sharpie water based paint pens
• catalyst wedge - for scraping color and smoothing down ephemera
• dylusions ink sprays
• stencils from Stencil Girl products
• Gallery neon oil pastels

A couple weekends ago I had a wonderful visit with her, Carissa Paige and Pixie Campbell for dinner in Berkeley. {sorry for the dark, blurry photo..but that's the only one I have..lol}

She has a wonderful NEW year-long e-course called True Free Spirit...which I will be diving into! The first image in this post is the March project. find out more details about her workshop here.

I believe there is a lot we can soak in from watching and learning about another artist's process, not to copy but for inspiration. In the coming months I will feature various artists during artJOURNALING fridays. I hope you find some time and make marks in your journal this weekend. I know I'm super inspired to PLAY after watching Mindy's video. happy art journaling!!

Karen's amazing art journals and photography truly are INSPIRATIONAL. Last year, I spent a week visiting her & her adorable son Nico and touring around NYC, we had so much fun exploring, thrifting and making art. 

karen's artJOURNALING daily prompt...

With our camera phones and pocket sized cameras we have all surely become photographers of the every day. But why keep all this wonderful evidence of our adventures cooped up & hidden in our computers? Print them out & add them to your art journal! Add some paint, scratch them up, stamp on top, collage bits and pieces of your day.... Adding your own imagery to your journals will infuse it with YOU & will inspire you to pull out that camera even more :)

ps- {from karen} while you are at it try some fun camera phone apps. I love FXCamera for my Droid & there is a great review of lots of camera apps for the iPhone here. have fun!!

this post includes fantastic artwork from my creative DOODLES online workshop. it always amazes me what is created by students in my classes...especially in online workshops where the lessons and content are delivered through pages of colorful PDF workbooks and videos. i think taking a self-paced e-course allows students to explore their own style without distractions while they are in their own studio with their own supplies..they can just PLAY and create.

My creativity UNLEASHED collective website has fostered worldwide friendships of artists who give support unconditionally and share stories, ideas but most of inspire creativity and share their ART!

i'm in love with all the layers and vibrant colors that each artist displayed in their work. this workshop was a 5-week e-course with daily drawing and doodling exercises. from simple beginnings of drawing shapes to layering collage, monoprints, digital images incorporating paint, markers, crayons, and oil pastels. each artist used the creative jumpstarts to develop their own style.
