boxes..boxes..cabinets..everywhere. getting the studio and boutique set up. My goal is to be set up by May 1. I'm planning a grand opening and open studio events..i'll share more details soon.
After taking a break from my blog and social media for a week...I tried to take a little holiday but my spring break consisted of a lot of hard work! In between planning content for my new REDEFINE the DOODLE online workshop and working on a fabric jewelry project, Tyler and I have been busy giving my new art studio a face lift to prepare for move-in this week. We've spent the past two weekends priming, painting, pulling back carpet and installing new floors...exhilarating and fun but super exhausting. It was more work than I expected but so worth it...here's a peek into the progress we're making.
The entire inside {around 1000 sq ft. wall space} of the building was dark rusty orange, so it took three coats of primer to cover the color, then it was time to paint. I had fun choosing colors...of course there is a bright turquoise, hints of minty green, yellow green, peach and purple. We also painted a black chalkboard wall. I can't wait to doodle notes and designs on the walls!
To save money on the paint, I took the left over paint from when we had the rooms in our house painted and had the paint re-tinted to turquoise. It worked out perfect...just enough paint for a pop of turquoise color throughout the studio and it was FREE! :)
I am so thankful for all the hard work Tyler put in, I couldn't have done it without him! He pulled back the carpet on half the studio which will be my workshop and workspace then installed a new plywood floor over the sub floor. He also built me another studio table from a salvage reclaimed door and 4x4's.
I don't know how those home dec/renovation shows do it in 1-2 days..obviously they have a huge team of people because it took us almost 6 days to finish most of the base painting. It's all the taping and priming that took forever. I still have a lot of painting to do since I'll be creating a couple of mixed media murals.
I also scored on mistinted paints at Sherwin Williams, I found a couple of gallons for $5 each..a beautiful metallic pearl and chartreuse venetian plaster. I'll share more about the mixed media walls in an upcoming post...but here's a little peek.
I'm planning a lot of fun events..tea & painting parties, wine tasting, open studios, collaborative workshops, creative business camp and boutique sales..so stay tuned for all the details. I'm looking forward to seeing you for a visit but for now I hope a virtual tour will inspire you! :) Thanks for sharing in my creative journey...this studio is truly a dream come true! I'm off to start packing and moving...
xoxo~Traci

The celebration continues on my Doodles Unleashed online book tour today with another one of my favorite creative companies PanPastel. I love their vibrant soft pastel colors for my mixed media paintings, especially the Bright Yellow Green which I used on fabric {unbleached muslin} in this Girlie Glam painting. There is also a link in the book to a video tutorial showcasing how to create this face.
In the Hand Drawn Letters section of Doodles Unleashed, I used a few of PanPastel colors to paint the letter "U", then doodled with Sakura Gelly Roll Pens over the top and used a USPS priority mail box as the surface. I will be sharing more hand drawn lettering techniques and videos in my upcoming REDEFINE the Doodle online workshop series.

I am super excited to share today's Doodles Unleashed online book tour stop with you because I'm vising my new fabulous doodling pal, artist, designer and author of Creative Doodling and Beyond, Stephanie Corfee!! Every time I visit Amazon, I would see my book paired with hers as "Frequently Bought Together", so I ventured out to her website and found a vibrant, creative soul..instantly fell in LOVE with her artwork. It's colorful, inspiring and simply beautiful. So when I started planning my book tour, I sent her an email to ask her if she'd like to join in the party and she said YES!! We spoke on the phone for over an hour and it was like talking to an old high school pal.:) she's such a sweetheart! I love that art brings people together, I definitely have met wonderful people through sharing my art.
Our books definitely go hand in hand. You will LOVE every page of Stephanie's book, it's full of creative doodling exercises, examples of her gorgeous artwork and lots of room to PLAY with pages you can practice your own doodles. It's a MUST HAVE for inspiration and great techniques.
So we brainstormed the idea of doing an East coast meeets West coast collaborative doodling project and I asked Stephanie to start with one of her fabulous painting techniques and film it. She sent me over the video and artwork...look at this gorgeousness...
We work in a very similar fashion, painting serendipitously, the brush dances across the page, getting lost in vibrant colors and mark-making. I loved watching Stephanie’s painting process and decided to incorporate her painting into my artwork. After you finish reading my blog, head on over to Stephanie's blog to hear more about her process and see her FAB, colorful artwork!!
a little about my creative process...I printed out Stephanie's painting on my inkjet printer and cut out free form shapes with a craft knife. Next up, I painted a piece of Strathmore Mixed Media 300 series paper with Creative Imaginations Luminarte Silks , let it dry, then used Collage Pauge Glossy to adhere the cut pieces to the painted surface. The Girlie Glam doodle was done with a size 1 round brush dipped in Speedball India Ink. More layers of paint were added...

I put together a fun video to share our artwork...take peek at a time lapse of our doodling collab...techniques you'll find in our books. enjoy the inspiration!
