LIVE from CHA...day ONE!

This is my eighth year attending CHA and every year the excitement to see all the new products and trends never dies. But my FAVORITE part about coming to these shows is catching up with old friends and meeting new ones! This year I'm thrilled to be able to walk the show floor to research trends, visit with vendors and meet with many of the companies who have been my fabulous sponsors over the years.

Day ONE was filled with visiting with old pals, crocheting and lots of walking!

artJOURNALING daily: pretty PRINTS

{a collection of my handmade stamps & stencils}

I make handmade stamps from old postcards, manila folders and found objects. I cut my stencils with scissors or for more detailed ones like flowers I free form draw with an Xacto blade to cut the design. here are a few jumpstarts and ideas for you to create lovely PRETTY prints in your art journal!

experiment with printing on paper towels. I detail the process in my book and talk more about my printed papers in this video. I HEART letter stencils, geometric stamps, flower & heart stencils and use chipboard shapes for painting.

one of my favorite tools is the brayer. spray through laser cut cardstock or plastic stencils then turn over the stencil and take a print with a brayer.

burn designs into craft foam to create a unique printing plate. roll paint over the printing plate and turn over onto paper and burnish with a brayer. spray through hand cut stencils

cut shapes out of self adhesive craft foam to make handmade stamps.

I collect chipboard letters in all fonts & sizes and create alphabet stamps by adhering them to adhesive fun foam. another favorite tool...my collection of architectural green stencils.

cut textured grunge board and glue it to a cardboard background. roll out paint onto a sheet of acrylic plexiglass and make monoprints

be creative...there are so many interesting tools and textures around your work space. start making your very own stamps and stencils....use them to make PRETTY prints!

It's time to SPOIL yourself! Have you always wanted to travel and have an amazing artful experience? What could be better than combining two loves...travel & art? I am so excited for you to join me...exploring the TUSCAN countryside.

Playing for a week of painting, collage, sketching, photography and creating a one-of-a-kind travel art journal. Oh and I can't forget to mention...experiencing the delectable food, wine and chocolate.

Build a visual journal that documents your travel journey, displays a collection of personal memories, drawings and images. Throughout the week we will take excursions and learn about capturing interesting images on your journey. The photos and sketches will be incorporated into your journal to create interesting collage backgrounds.

Play…fast…free…spilling paint and words, thoughts and ideas. Discover interesting ways to extend your artwork and creative exercises including dooding, idea lists, word collage, vibrant color work that will get you thinking about your art in new ways. I share a little more about my art journaling process here,  art journal video tours here and here and loads of photos here.

The itinerary is full of wonderful day trips and exlporing in between our creative sessions. The deadline is fast approaching to sign up. There is a special...SAVE $100 if you register by January 31!

for me the {snapshots} I capture are a visual form of art journaling. with my camera, I collect a record of sights, textures, interesting displays and colors that creatively influence the design of my journal pages. sometimes the photos are use to inspire backgrounds, others are used as collage fodder, at times I write over the photos but most of all...I cherish the memories of the moments captured.

2011 marks the TEN year anniversary of launching my creative business, treiC designs! It's been an amazing, at times challenging but definitely wonderful creative journey. With a combination of hard work, determination and loving support I've built a successful career as an independent, full-time artist and designer. I'm proud to say that I am living my DREAMS...so blessed to do what I LOVE everyday and share it with you. In honor of this special milestone, I will be celebrating the entire year sharing stories in all my favorite categories, doing special giveaways, relaunching & updating my websites, online boutique and blog with a new look and always staying true to my main goal with my art...to inspire.

Lately, I've been using my dip pen for writing in my art journal.

today is January twentieth 2011...

sun shines bright. crisp chill.

today I feel inspired...to create...

my morning ritual...

up at 5:30. i painted & wrote.

made a protein shake

then off to the yoga studio

onto the mat for mindful flow

today...i am making art...
