playing in the studio today. I've been visualizing, brainstorming and sketching a new project for a while now...a mixed media fabric jewelry collection. today I woke up at 3:30am with a bunch of ideas running through my head. So off to the studio I went.

hand painted and hand dyed fabric, freestyle crochet, free motion stitched fabric pieces embellished with swarovski crystals, macrame, vintage beads and enameled charms.
Taking time to nourish my soul and a much needed break from work, I've been getting back into gardening. It's something I haven't done in over eight years because of my crazy travel schedule. I'm venturing into growing organic flowers, succulents and a vegetable container garden.
Lately, I've been combining my photos with elements from my new Digital Art Journaling kits {coming soon}...the digital kits have brushes, stamps, overlays, hand lettered words and backgrounds...all created by me from my mixed media paintings. step-by-step jumpstarts...
sketch a face with pencil. I sketched a simple outline and filled in the details with paint
paint face with a couple of colors at a time
work randomly around page, painting different colors throughout the face
paint shadows and darker areas of the face and eyes with shades of colors, when using watercolors add more paint to brush or mix with a brown or black to create a darker color.
continue to fill in color in the headdress
add in details with contrast colors
{TIPS...}
mix multiple colors on your pallete to get the right paint color
be sure to wipe color off/clean your brush on a napkin in between so the colors don't create mud
to create a lighter wash add more water to paintbrush
if working with water brush, squeeze brush to create a lighter wash
experiment making a variety of marks with one brush by adding pressure to your brushstroke and tilting the brush in different ways. you can make dots easily with a round brush.
