Last weekend I celebrated with fellow artists, friends and family at my Doodles Unleashed book release party at The Studio. Enjoy a few snapshots of the party. My good friends from Scrumpoptious made the DELISH and artistic cakepops and cookie cupcake desserts. I had a doodling table for everyone to play and draw..the hit of the party! Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate, I had a FABULOUS time!

{collage pauge resist painting in Doodles Unleashed}
Today is all about RESIST painting techniques on my Doodles Unleashed online book tour stop with my talented friend and designer Christine Adolph, who licenses designs for beautiful scrapbook products with Creative Imaginations, fabric, rubber stamps and stationery. I was introduced to Christine's artwork through Stampington & Co. around ten years ago and every year enjoy our chats about art and business catching up at CHA. I just love..love and admire all of her mixed media artwork, inspiration sketchbooks and foil techniques. She is a true inspiration!
In Doodles Unleashed I used a few of Christine's CI licensed foil products {see photo above}, which are FAB! Also, in my book there is a section about Collage Pauge Resist and I'm sharing about that on Christine's blog today PLUS she is giving away a set of Creative Imaginations Foils and Sticy2's!!
When I asked Christine to be part of the blog tour, she had the idea of sharing our RESIST techniques since we both use them in our artwork. She designed this FABULOUS Krylon Foil Resist tutorial to share with you just for my blog tour. She developed this unique painting technique after a lot of experimenting and it's GORGEOUS!!

Christine says..."Layer doodling onto your stenciled background (simple version). More complex would be (which is what I did). Scan stenciled background and doodle and layer together in photoshop (change the color, scale up, crop, repeat images like I did with the flowers)"

Today's Doodles Unleashed online book tour stop is at Hambly Screen Prints. I'm sharing some art journal LOVE...I heart Hambly! I LOVE to incorporate Hambly's wonderful overlays, silk screen papers and rub-ons in the pages of my art journals and calendar/planner. In my new book Doodles Unleashed I used a few of Hambly products in my mixed media creations. While brainstorming my Hambly blog tour post, Allison, their Art Director suggested I play along in this months Sketch Challenge and I thought it would be fun. My Doodles Unleashed online book tour continues today with a one of my favorite creative companies, Sakura of America. Sprinkled throughout Doodles Unleashed are numerous projects where I use their fabulous pens and markers. I've been a huge fan for years and if you've taken one of my many workshops you've seen me share all my faves.

More of my marker/pen FAVES...their brand new Koi coloring brush pens are great for doodling my monthly graffiti masterboards video {a technique in the book}. Glaze and Soufflé pens are my favorite tools for doodling over my mixed media paintings and journal pages, they create vibrant lines and fun accents to my artwork. To add a touch of sparkle to my paintings, my choice is the Quickie Glue with Crafty Chica ultra fine glitter.

Spend time painting with kids..their creative spirit is inspiring. Let them lead you in your doodle creations. Give them permission to play, sit back and watch the magic they create. Take turns drawing and painting. Don't tell them what to do...let them explore...lead them in a way that is encouraging and playful. Have fun!

{doodles inspired by my vintage blouses}
Today's Doodles Unleashed online book tour stop is with my lovely and sweet friend, Mindy Lacefield over at Timssally. The wonderful world of the internet introduced me to Mindy, then we met in person at Art Unraveled last year. We spent a day exploring thrift shops and had a fun shopping adventure along with our other art pal Danielle in Phoenix.
Thrifting and antiquing are my favorite things to do, especially when I'm traveling. I'm always on the hunt for unique treasures and colorful patterns.
My vintage blouse collection is not only my fashionista wear but often becomes inspiration in my artwork. Here's a little peek inside my closet...the blouses were used to inspire the doodle in my painting above. Today, I share a chapter snippet from Doodles Unleashed and creative doodle prompts about vintage fabric inspiration.

{PLAY altered photo in collaborative journal by karen + me}
The next stop on my Doodles Unleashed online book tour is over at Karen Michel's inspirational visual storytelling blog. Today is all about iPhoneography, altered images and digital merged layers..and who better to share this topic with than with my good friend Karen Michel, the queen of altered imagery. Head on over to Karen's blog where I share a few of my iPhoneography images and talk about my fave apps to create digital photo layers. In Doodles Unleashed, there is a section on digital photo layers that shares tips on creating organic backgrounds for your mixed media creations.

Karen and I have had many adventures including...thrifting in Long Island, taking the train into NYC and exploring, walking thru the student art exhibit at Parsons, shopping at Daiso the Japanese $1.50 store in Seattle {we walked out of the store with a few HUGE bags :)}, and teaching a collaborative workshop at the Artfest Annex. She's a kindred spirit...full of creative juiciness :)
