After taking a break from my blog and social media for a week...I tried to take a little holiday but my spring break consisted of a lot of hard work! In between planning content for my new REDEFINE the DOODLE online workshop and working on a fabric jewelry project, Tyler and I have been busy giving my new art studio a face lift to prepare for move-in this week. We've spent the past two weekends priming, painting, pulling back carpet and installing new floors...exhilarating and fun but super exhausting. It was more work than I expected but so worth it...here's a peek into the progress we're making.
The entire inside {around 1000 sq ft. wall space} of the building was dark rusty orange, so it took three coats of primer to cover the color, then it was time to paint. I had fun choosing colors...of course there is a bright turquoise, hints of minty green, yellow green, peach and purple. We also painted a black chalkboard wall. I can't wait to doodle notes and designs on the walls!
To save money on the paint, I took the left over paint from when we had the rooms in our house painted and had the paint re-tinted to turquoise. It worked out perfect...just enough paint for a pop of turquoise color throughout the studio and it was FREE! :)
I am so thankful for all the hard work Tyler put in, I couldn't have done it without him! He pulled back the carpet on half the studio which will be my workshop and workspace then installed a new plywood floor over the sub floor. He also built me another studio table from a salvage reclaimed door and 4x4's.
I don't know how those home dec/renovation shows do it in 1-2 days..obviously they have a huge team of people because it took us almost 6 days to finish most of the base painting. It's all the taping and priming that took forever. I still have a lot of painting to do since I'll be creating a couple of mixed media murals.
I also scored on mistinted paints at Sherwin Williams, I found a couple of gallons for $5 each..a beautiful metallic pearl and chartreuse venetian plaster. I'll share more about the mixed media walls in an upcoming post...but here's a little peek.
I'm planning a lot of fun events..tea & painting parties, wine tasting, open studios, collaborative workshops, creative business camp and boutique sales..so stay tuned for all the details. I'm looking forward to seeing you for a visit but for now I hope a virtual tour will inspire you! :) Thanks for sharing in my creative journey...this studio is truly a dream come true! I'm off to start packing and moving...
