Last weekend I had a wonderful trip to SoCal where I participated in the Aaron Brothers Fall Artrageous event. It was FABULOUS and I had a fun group of people come through at my LIVE painting and book signing. Also got to catch up with a few of my artist friends and my cousin Yesenia. One of my college friends, Monica, brought her son too. Thank you to everyone who came out and spent time with me. I signed a lot of books and shared numerous painting techniques. Also a huge thanks to Strathmore Artist Papers who sponsored my event. I played with my favorite art supplies and Strathmore Mixed Media papers. Thanks to the team at Aaron Brothers who made this event possible! They did a great job promoting and putting together all the details, it was great working with them.
One of the best things about my job is the friendships I've made and connecting with the many artists who have crossed my path over the years. When I travel I make it a point to visit family and friends. During this trip, I spent time with Lisa Englebrecht. We are planning to do a collab workshop in January at her lovely house in Long Beach...more details soon. My cousin, Yesenia, came out to the event, we had dinner and got to catch up, talking about life and career. I'm so proud of her, she's going to accomplish big things. She's launching her career as a hair stylist & make up artist. Dino Mayorga, a talented artist and a member of the Toms Artist Collective came by to say hi. I met Dino at another event in OC years ago and it's always fun to catch up. He paints kicks live at events in SoCal, so if you get a chance check him out. Also, I had the pleasure of spending the day with one of my favorite artists and mentor, Sherrill Kahn. I visited with her and her husband Joel at their beautiful home and talked art, business and rubber stamps. It's amazing all the artwork she has created and I was in awe of everything she shared. I'm excited about her new book that comes out in 2013. She has always been so giving with her advice and art techniques. I am so appreciative and thankful. I was hoping to also stop by my good friend Sonya Nimri in Venice but time ran out, at least we caught up via phone. It was another whirlwind trip and when I finally got back home, I realized I didn't have any pictures with Lisa, Dino or Sherrill.
On another note...I did get to see space shuttle Endeavour while cruising on the lax tarmac and encountered a beautiful sunset in Long Beach. Here are a few photos from the event and my weekend in SoCal...
