Since today I normally do a post for artJOURNALING fridays, I wanted to share a few of my latest collection of handmade art journals and give you ideas for constructing your own journals. The art of making handmade books is sometimes more fun than fill in in the book. None of the journals I make are the same. They all have a unique look and different papers & embellishments. In my new shoppe, from time to time, I'll have some of my original art and handmade art journals for sale. Here's a peek at my latest collection...
"A" handmade art journal - {photo above} This free motion, freestyle machine stitched art journal is filled with a collection of decorated journal prompt pages, b/w & color laser copies, recycled papers and card stock. Some pages have handwritten creative prompts. A few pages inside have stitched embellished designs. Each journal is one-of-a-kind with layers hand painted fabrics, dyed fabric & papers and some have hand lettered words. This journal spine is machine stitched. - add your favorite washi tape as decoration to the cover of your journals
- attach stencils to the cover, create a cover from heavy duty manila folders
- machine stitch flower shapes
- glue photos to the outside cover of your journal
- paint stencils on brown grocery bags and cut them down to create journal pages

- paint fabric swatches then collage them together using a sewing machine
- add glitter to the fabric cover
- print dimensional paint onto the surface of fabric using transparencies
- tape smaller pieces of papers together to extend the length of pages
- anything goes...when making a journal bind papers that have paint or doodle marks on them into the book. the pages don't have to be blank. I actually prefer to have some type of mark on the page as a jumpstart

- print your artwork on heavy weight card stock and stitch it together to create journal covers
- add painted strips of fabric or fabric tape to the spine to make it more sturdy
- add large mailing envelopes as pages, use the end with the flap and closure to carry collage pieces for working on-the-go
- stitch large journal rectangle blocks {areas you can later write in} onto the page using a sewing machine.
