BOLD, expressive and unconventional PRINTMAKING
LESSON THREE: monoprints + acrylic skins
It's week THREE of my 2015 Strathmore online workshop...this week's printmaking lesson is all about using a plastic page protector {alternatively you could also use a large plastic freezer bag as a substrate} to create monoprints on paper while building textured acrylic skins. PLUS I share a BONUS video of various acrylic skins.

Happy holidays! In 2009, I began a holiday blog series every December called {24} holiday inspirations, where I shared loads of holiday tutorials, inspiration and ideas. This year I'm tackling the final portion of my manuscript for Printmaking Unleashed which is due right before Christmas, so unfortunately I don't have time to write new posts. If you're like me, you are busy wrapping gifts last minute. But that doesn't mean they can't be beautiful and one-of-a-kind! With a few simple supplies, you can create unique DIY holiday gift wrap even if you are short on time.
Creative Toolbox>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Scribbles Dimensional Paint {aka Puffy Paint}
construction paper or recycled brown grocery/shopping paper bags
scissors
Graffiti GLAM stamps and Scribbles Stamp pads
Tulip Fashion Ultra Fine Glitter
twine, hemp string or baker's twine
Collage Pauge or glue
gift tags {download my FREE holiday tags & washi tape}
BASIC technique>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I created a variety of handmade gift wrap by creating Puffy Paint prints. Doodle onto one piece of construction paper then take another piece of paper and press it onto the first painted paper to transfer the print. This will create multiple prints in short amount of time. The paint will take up 10-20 minutes to dry. You can also sprinkle glitter over the wet paint to add sparkle to the design. Once your printed papers are dry, you are ready to wrap!!
STAMPED gift wrap {below}>>>>>> apply Scribbles stamp pad to Graffiti GLAM stamp and print onto construction paper. use a soft rubber brayer to roll over the back of the stamp to get a solid print. While ink is wet, sprinkle Tulip Fashion ultra fine glitter over the stamped patterns. let dry. cut a piece and use it to wrap around gift package. Secure with my FREE washi tape.
STAMPED & doodle gift wrap {below}>>>>>> apply Scribbles stamp pad to Graffiti GLAM stamp and print onto construction paper. While ink is wet, sprinkle Tulip Fashion ultra fine glitter over the stamped patterns. let dry. write Merry with Scribbles red dimensional paint then sprinkle red Tulip Fashion glitter to wet paint. let dry then add tag
COLLAGE snowflake {below}>>>>>> hand cut a snowflake from painted construction paper. Apply Collage Pauge Matte to the back of paper snowflake, press it onto the top of wrapped package, then apply another layer of Collage Pauge Matte. Tie a piece of baker's twine and add a gift tag.

artJOURNALING daily {holiday LOVE}...today is all about doodling and creating a page of holiday words & doodles to use as a "master".
The video tutorial shares one of my fave simple ways to create artwork to use in a variety of other projects. I create a masterboard of artwork using markers and/or paint, then photocopy and scan, to reuse the original artwork in gift tags and holiday paper projects. This technique is great for making accents for handmade greeting cards, collage sheets for holiday journal pages or project life/scrapbooking journal cards.
In this video I use Koi Coloring Brush Pens by Sakura and Strathmore 300 series Mixed Media paper. music "Christmas Eve" is slack key guitar by Yuki Alani Yamauchi

red + pink...one of my FAVE color combos...
place stencils over surface {Strathmore mixed media board}. for this background I used a plastic place mat I found at a craft store in Mexico, a sink mat from the dollar store and Crafter's Workshop stencil.
spray with red & pink spray paint. I used Montana Gold acrylic color {make sure you are in a well ventilated area}
scribble your journaling with a red Montana acrylic paint pen
IDEA: {below}take photos of your art journal pages, then print them to use in all your creative paper projects
IDEA: digitally alter your photos by layer my merryHOLIDAZE glyph font or write over the top using your favorite paint program. I'll be uploading it to my online shoppe this week and sharing more details about it in an upcoming post!

photo inspirations: natural beauty
some days my creative inspiration comes from the beautiful colors, textures and vignettes that I encounter in nature. I take snapshots with my iPhone to document my day, then print or digitally alter them then collage them nto my journal pages. A big part of the holiday season is the weather, find a creative way to document it.
in California, we've had a week of down pouring rain, grey skies and chilly weather. finally the sun peeked through the clouds today. this season I've had a love affair with the gorgeous natural beauty in AUTUMN leaves and they have made their way into my art.
