INSPIRATION *flair tray: spring fling

It's been a busy and creative month of inspiration!! I've been working on numeous projects and have a couple more posts for my Doodles Unleashed online book tour. Today it's all about my INSPIRATION *flair trays. The first chapter of the book delves into Doodle Inspirations and I share a few ways to inspire your artwork and creative projects. One of my favorite exercises is to create a *flair tray. If you've followed my blog or taken my online workshops, you've seen my previous collections of colorful palettes. 

this *flair tray has bits and embellishments from my studio...

many of these pieces were thrifted on my various antiquing & thrift shop excursions in Mexico, sonoma coast, the bay area and austin

vintage buttons, doily, embroidery floss, yarn

a few of my hand painted papers & canvas

chinese brocade fabric, an embroidered table cloth

die cut felt numbers, pantone coated chips, sequins,

vintage beaded flowers & hand dyed trim

this *flair tray has special significance...things that remind me of my Grandma Bautista because there are bits in this tray from her collections..vintage buttons, the top right paper is a Hallmark shopping bag she collected a bunch of paper treasures in and 323-7 is how she inscribed all her ceramics when they were getting ready to be fired.

day 4 {24} HOLIDAY inspirations 2011: merry bliss *flair tray

Oh how I LOVE LOVE gathering inspriation for my creative projects. Here's one of my holiday *flair trays...a collection of handpainted & found papers, embellisments, trinkets, beads and fibers. This tray's color palette is the "traditional" holiday colors of red and green with a little twist of turquoise and hints of lime & fuschia.

what's inspiring me today...

I'm always asked about what inspires my art projects. So from time to time I'll share with you a peek inside my *FLAIR trays. While brainstorming a project, I create INSPIRATION style boards, tags and trays to gather swatches for color palettes and interesting collections of materials for reference. I incorporate Pantone chips and paint swatches, found objects and images...anything that inspires me. I pull beads, baubles, flowers, trims and mix bits & pieces from my stash of hand painted papers, fabrics, embellishments and remnants. My *flair trays are mainly for refernce but sometimes pieces are incorporated in the final artwork. Enjoy the snippets inside my creative process...
